Dr. Susanne Fengler is a professor of international journalism at the Technical University of Dortmund, director of the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism, and Co-Director of the MERCUR Graduate School “School of International and Intercultural Communication” (SIIC). She is also the German project director of the European Journalism Observatory. Other current projects include “Journalism in a Global Context”, a network for research and journalism education in the field of migration in African countries, and the European Handbook of Media Accountability. Before she worked as assistant professor at the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research (IPMZ) at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and as a researcher and visiting lecturer at the Universities of Zurich, Basel, Lucerne, the Swiss Journalism School (MAZ) and the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ). She was the project coordinator of the EU-funded research project MediaAcT, a comparative research project on media accountability in 14 European and Arab countries. Susanne Fengler is an Associate Editor of the book series Studies in international, transnational and global communications and of the book series Kompaktwissen Journalismus.
