One of the outputs of NEWSREEL2 is creating a free accessible online glossary in English that helps to build a common knowledge base. We decided to continue the glossary of the first NEWSREEL project, so all of the terms connected to the specific fields of journalism can be found in the same place.

The structure of the glossary follows the fields of the syllabi and the e-learning materials, therefore it includes the most important terms from all fields. The areas of NEWSREEL2 are Storytelling in social media, Graphic journalism, Improving democratic sensibility, Covering migration, Foreign coverage, Journalism for voice-activated assistants and devices,  AI and journalism, robot journalism and algorithms, Verifying and analysing fake news and Debunking disinformation.

All of the 90 terms connected to these professional fields (10 per fields) have been uploaded. Among the new entries you can find Multimedia storytelling Graphic novel, Journalistic professional autonomy, Geographies of migration, Collaborative mindset, Natural Language Understanding (NLU), Automated journalism, Trolling and Cognitive bias.

The rapid growth of voice activate technology hasn’t been translated into interest in news consumption on these devices, as pointed out by several reports. Content development for smart speakers and voice assistants still faces many challenges in what regards consumption and production.

There are 8 billion people in the world, around 66% have a smartphone, and most of them use a device with Android or IOS, so they have access to the usage of voice assistants. According to some surveys, considering all the devices, 45% of the Internet users worldwide use voice commands and voice search. And where do news stand in this picture?

This is the seventh piece of the summary of the NEWSREEL2 research report, written by Ana Pinto-Martinho, Miguel Crespo and Wanessa Andrade (ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon).

Back in 2015, countries around the world signed the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The development of wind energy and renewable sources in Europe, in the last 10 years, has been rather uncertain and stagnant.

Also, in the same year, more than 70 countries signed the Paris Agreement and mentioned wind energy in their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) as a key mitigation measure against climate change, according to Wind Europe.

Given their plan, the European Commission is calling on the renewable energy industry to deliver 480 GW of wind capacity by 2030 to improve Europe's security of energy supply.

Four of the countries that signed the Paris Agreement are Germany, Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia. We looked at their national strategies regarding renewable energy, more precisely wind energy, and tried to compare the data we have been able to find and see if we can find some similarities. Also, trying to see what the main differences are.

This piece of article was written in the framework of the NEWSREEL2 Summer School, and it is the result of the teamwork of the project called 'Transitioning to wind energy or just rambling about it?' Authors and members of the project: Martin Guniš, Nick Gehrmann, Andra Maria Mureșan, Jakub Radan Dvořák.
