Tina Bettels-Schwabbauer is a researcher at the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism at the Technical University of Dortmund and managing editor of the German website of the European Journalism Observatory. She studied online journalism at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt, Germany. After her graduation, she worked as an online editor for a retail industry newspaper in Germany, and then moved to Australia for three years where she lectured in Media Studies at the University of Adelaide. She has also taught at the Institute for Journalism at the Technical University of Dortmund and in the programme Journalism and Business Communication at the University of Applied Sciences Europe in Iserlohn. Additional experience comes from teaching assignments at the Institut d'études politiques Toulouse (France) and the University of Wroclaw (Poland) as part of the Erasmus mobility programme for lecturers and from seminars for Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Her teaching includes courses on international journalism and practice-oriented seminars. Her research interests are international journalism cultures, professionalism in journalism and journalism education, especially with a focus on CEE countries, which is also the topic of her PhD project.
