University of Bucharest

The University of Bucharest (UB) is considered the most important Romanian university – confirmed by a classifying exercise which the Ministry of Education ran in 2011 for all the Romanian academic system, based on academic resources and results. The Ministry of Education placed the University of Bucharest in the prestigious category of ”advanced research and education”.
The University of Bucharest, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies (FJSC) included, offers numerous study programmes, from Bachelor Degrees to PhD programmes, as well as other academic programmes, such as long life learning. The university constantly collaborates with more than 100 prestigious universities from 40 different countries.
The university's graduates and alumni effectively contribute to public agenda setting and decision-making processes, and to international research in all academic fields. Many of our graduates have become public figures and can be encountered as professors and researchers in great universities around the world, or as members of the Romanian Academy or other academies in other countries, writers, politicians (members of Parliament, ministers, prime-ministers, and presidents), diplomats, etc.
The public university is composed by 19 faculties and departments and several Research Centres, including an Interdisciplinary Research Institute. It has 2500 full-time employees, from which about 1500 are teaching and researching staff. Some employees are paid by project, mainly in research.
The Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies (FJSC) is one of only two communication schools in Romania that was ranked in the A category by the Ministry of Education, in the same classification exercise. Founded a quarter of a century ago, FJSC was the first journalism school established after the fall of Communism in Romania. The Bachelor and Master Programs, drafted following British, American and French traditions, imposed a benchmark for all communication schools that were established afterwards. In 2005, the first Doctoral School in Communication Studies in Romania started its courses at FJSC, UB.
Currently, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies has more than 1000 students enrolled, both full time and part time, in three Bachelor programs (Journalism, Communication and Public Relations, and Advertising), nine Master programs (seven in Romanian, one in French and one in English, covering a list of subjects ranging from Commercial Communication Campaigns, to Political Communication and to Media Management).
A growing list of journalists, media managers, public relations specialists, advertisers and members of the communication schools in Romania are graduates of FJSC.
The Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies is an active member in international research and academic networks, both in the English and the French speaking academic worlds. Every year FJSC hosts and co-hosts several international conferences. FJSC is the editor of the Romanian Journal of Journalism and Communication (RJJC), indexed full-text by ProQuest and by EBSCO, and of Styles of Communication, indexed in EBSCO, Index Copernicus and Genamics Journal Seek.
